WHOLE-TRIP PLANNING
Build a travel budget around the whole trip.
A flight quote is one input. A useful pre-booking budget adds your stay, getting around, daily spending and a reserve before you compare the total with your limit.
Build my trip budgetStart with a limit, then build the estimate.
Decide how much your traveling party can spend on the trip. In TripCeiling, the budget is a total for the group, rather than a limit for each traveler. Choose the departure airport, destination, dates and number of travelers. The app uses the dates to calculate nights and counts meals over nights plus one travel day.
Search live flight offers through the linked Travelpayouts search site. Check the offer's round-trip price, passenger ages, included baggage and conditions. Return to Compare Travel and enter the chosen price. The budget does not automatically read the provider's quote.
What goes into the total?
| Category | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Flights | Round-trip fare and airline extras per traveler, plus airport access for the group. |
| Stay | The whole party's combined nightly rate, stay-wide fees and relevant transport. |
| Rental car | Days, taxes, insurance, fuel and parking, if included. |
| Daily spending | Meals per traveler per day, activities and other trip-wide expenses. |
| Reserve | An editable buffer that is part of the spending estimate. |
A worked example
ILLUSTRATIVE INPUTS · USD · 1 TRAVELER · 4 NIGHTS
A selected flight costs $270 after its entered extras and airport access. The stay, fees and local transport total $555. Meals and activities add $215, and a $65 reserve brings the estimate to $1,105. Against a $1,000 limit, that is $105 over budget. These are sample inputs, not current fares or hotel quotes.
The calculator keeps the reserve when you try Budget Rescue adjustments. A scenario may show that a lower stay cost would bring the estimate closer to the limit, but you still need to find that offer or make that change before relying on it.
Keep unknown costs separate from free costs.
An unentered fare is not a free flight. The planner flags missing required prices and dates before giving an affordability verdict. Optional amounts that you leave blank count as zero, so review the extras checklist and enter applicable costs. Default daily-spending assumptions are editable and visible beside the setup form.
Refundable deposits are different from expenses. The planner excludes entered refundable rental holds from the expense total and shows a separate reminder when those rentals are selected. You may still need enough available cash or credit to cover a hold.
